Bicycle Carriers
When making a decision on acquiring a bicycle carrier, the options are endless. Before you start making price comparisons and looking for the best deal, you must first consider what you need to carry and how you will achieve this with your current vehicle.
There are rooftop bike carriers, trunk mounted bike racks, trailer hitch mounted bicycle carriers, clip on high bicycle carriers and the list goes on. A little research on the internet or your favorite bicycle shop will reveal what is available to suit your personal needs.
A big reason for buying a bicycle rack is boredom.. It’s nice to bike around the neighborhood, but if you want to get to some of the beautiful bicycle nature trails, you must find a way to get your bicycle and your friend’s bike from your home to the trail. Communities and bicycle clubs are using old rail lines to create wonderful nature bicycle trails for everyone to use for free. You may enjoy cycling a lot more when you combine cycling with a nature adventure, and you may even bike more often.
A 2 bike hitch rack or multiple bicycle carrier may not be expensive. You may get a regular rack bicycle kit, install it on your vehicle and haul your bikes to your favorite destination. A bicycle carrier can be a rear bike rack, a bike rack trunk mount, a top carrier, a hitch mounted bicycle rack, or you may choose to go with a dual purpose cargo carrier, slash, bike rack.
This latter option is less expensive that some of the conventional bicycle carriers. Look for cargo carriers on sale at your local car accessories supplier. These cargo carriers have gone on sale as tow ready folding cargo carriers, hitch mounted cargo carriers, cargo carrier accessories. They usually are sold as strictly cargo carriers. Then you can add a Maserbuilt Hitch-Haul Triple Bike Rack Accessory, or have your local welding shop make you one. Attach this to your cargo carrier and it doubles as a bike rack. Now you can carry virtually anything within the weight limit of your carrier rack.
I shopped around and found a cargo carrier for $39.00 and bought the 3 bike carrier attachment online for $22.00, delivery included. I’ve carried lumber, shrubs, garbage and of course my bicycles on this rack.

The 3 bike carrier takes little space on one end of the carrier and leaves lots of cargo space for the kitchen sink, and at a cost much less than the conventional bike carrier I was going to buy.
